Indian Textile industry is set to buy US$ 25 billion worth of textile machinery & components in the next 5 years

The Indian Textile Journal (The ITJ)In 2006 alone, Indian Textile industry bought textile machinery, components and spares worth over $2200 million, of which imported machinery was worth $1750 million (about 75%). Now, the industry is gearing up to buy machinery & parts worth $25 billion in the next 5 years (2007-2012). A conservative estimate puts the demand at: 29 million spindles, 1.39 lakh weaving machines, 36,000 Knitting machines, machinery to process 37 billion meters, 27 lakh stitching machines & parts, spares, much more……….

Besides, the Indian government has revised the Textile Upgradation Fund Scheme, under which incentives are available for buying machinery. With Rupee & Indian economy becoming stronger, textile industry is keen on capital investment.
