ITJ: Please tell us about your company, particularly its performance in the last 2 years.
KK: Basant Wire Industries specialises in the manufacturing of Textile Pins and Pinned machine accessories such as lattices, pinned lags, pinned rollers, spiked bars, pinned lickerins, top combs, faller inserts, ring temples and stenter pinbars.
The company is a leading manufacturer in India and exports to more than 20 countries including EU countries, USA, SE Asian countries, Taiwan, S Korea, African countries and in the Middle East. Our exports have grown more than 100% in the past two years and currently constitute nearly 35% of the company's turnover. The company's turnover has risen by more than 70% over the past two years and is projected to grow by more than 50% in the current financial year.
ITJ: Has there been any new machinery introduced recently? If so, give some details about its technology and relevance?
KK:The company has tied up with world leaders Stewarts of America Inc to manufacture pinned lags and pinned rollers for Blowrooms, Cards, Open-end spinning frames and for waste recycling machines, using their unique NIF technology which helps manufacture products of the highest accuracy and in a highly cost effective manner. The production was started in India by us under license of Stewarts, and using machinery and know how acquired from them. We intend to meet the international market demand for such products, including the leading OEMs from India.
Currently, pinned lags and rollers are primarily being imported at high costs. Local manufacturing shall provide the mills an opportunity to source such products of international quality in India at much lower prices and local service and support.
Using Stewarts experience and expertise, we are able to provide solutions to mills whereby they can improve fibre yield, yarn quality and reduce maintenance costs, thus making a huge impact in the spinning mill's profitability. With increasing induction of high speed, high production machinery in spinning, such technical service and product offerings shall become increasingly invaluable.
ITJ: Please explain with some details your participation at ITMA Munich, with special reference to the showcase you have planned there.
KK: We are going to display our entire range of pins and pinned products at the ITMA, including the latest range of products manufactured under Stewarts license. Besides demonstrating the quality and economical price aspects of our products, we are going to stress on the technical solutions we can provide customers to improve their product quality and operational efficiency.
ITJ: How will you rate your performance in the domestic as well as export markets in the last 5 years. Give some details of the new markets/countries you have opened for your products.
KK: Our company has taken giant strides over the past 5 years, in terms of product range, product quality, growth in sales, growth in exports and entry into new markets. We also have a patent for Plastic Pinbars, developed entirely through in-house R&D. Our exports 5 years ago were insignificant and now our major exports are to Western countries. Going into details will be a lengthy exercise.
ITJ: How do you see the Indian textile industry's progress in the global market and what role will your company be playing in future developments?
KK: The Indian textile industry is taking rapid strides in terms of capacity expansion, technology upgradation, value addition, exports and global competitiveness. We are miles behind China in terms of capacity, market share and prices but ahead in terms of value-added products and quality. What the Indian industry needs to do is expand the unit's capacity to global (Chinese scale) and become more aggressive in the export markets, stress on innovation and reducing both cost of production and delivery times.
The industry should also give whole-hearted support to the indigenous Textile Engineering Industry (TEI) to develop low cost, innovative, internationally quality machinery and accessories, which suit Indian raw materials and working conditions and cost less to use and maintain. The government should also meet the TEI's long-standing demand of offering the same benefits as extended to the textile industry under TUF, as this more than anything else will help the textile industry upgrade faster and at much lower costs, but this obvious solution has escaped the minds of the powers to be.
We see our role in helping Indian mills upgrade their old machines to higher production and quality levels, offer them international quality accessories at low cost, offer service support of the highest standard and partner them in innovating new products to serve their specific needs.
