"Our slogan -- Swiss Spinning Solutions -- describes exactly what we are doing and what we stand for. It is our aim to constantly develop new technology in the field of staple-fibre-spinning. We firmly believe that there is always room for improvement and that we would lag behind unless we tirelessly try to make good things better," says Mr Hans Stahlecker, chairman, Rotorcraft AG, Altstaetten/Switzerland.
"RoCoS, the ROTORCRAFT-Compact-Spinning-System, is an excellent example of how we make our slogan come true," he adds.
Compact-spinning has been introduced to the market during ITMA 1999 in Paris. At the time, Suessen and Rieter did display pneumatic compactingsystems Com4 and EliTe. Both systems have become quite successful since. Mr Stahlecker has been instrumental in the development of EliTe and therefore is able to not only see the front side of the coin but also the flip side.
The shortcomings of EliTe - and actually all pneumatic compacting-systems have since become evident: High cost of investment, high cost of maintenance and spare parts, and most importantly, very high cost for additional power consumption.
With these formidable handicaps it became quite clear that in spite of generally good spinning results, compact spinning could expect only a limited market penetration and had no chance to become the standard for ring spinning.
That is why Mr Stahlecker started to search for ways and means of compacting without the use of air-suction. Thus RoCoS, the Rotorcraft-compact-spinning system, came into being. RoCoS produces perfect compact-yarns without all the electrical, pneumatic and mechanical elements, which are necessary for pneumatic-compacting.
RoCoS uses only magnetic-mechanical means for compacting; it does not involve elaborate maintenance, costly spare parts and ever-increasing cost of power. RoCoS is the only compacting-system on the market today, which allows spinning perfect compact-yarn at no extra running expense compared to the spinning of regular yarn.
RoCoS makes it possible to either spin the same yarn at lower cost by using a cheaper cotton-mix or to spin better yarn by keeping the existing mix. RoCoS, the second generation of compact spinning, has been developed and extensively tested for two years and finally released for general sales during the ITMA-Asia exhibition in October 2005. By the time ITMA Munich will open its doors, 1 million spindles will have been sold.
During ITMA Munich the full range of RoCoS will be shown: Standard-RoCoS, Twin-RoCoS for Siro-yarns and Core-RoCoS for Stretch-Yarns. ROTORCRAFT is convinced that RoCoS is the future of ring-spinning. Also on display in Munich will be the new line of ROTORCRAFT-drafting components: Top arms, top rollers and fibre-guiding elements. These components show the way of how to improve the quality of drafting.
