Cost reduction in manufacturing is becoming increasingly important in these days of tough competition especially after the dismantling of textile quotas from January 2005. Utilities cost forms a significant portion of operating cost in textile manufacture, more so for the textile process houses. 

With this in view, The Bombay Textile Research Association has released a booklet, Steam Consumption Norms For Textile Process Houses. 

BTRA has been advocating conservation of utilities such as thermal energy, electrical energy, compressed air and water for more than three decades. BTRA has undertaken several consultancy assignments on utilities conservation for textile process houses - modern as wel l as small/medium scale units. BTRA, by virtue of extensive shop floor studies, has built up considerable expertise in thermal energy conservation in textile process houses. 

This booklet contains steam consumption norms for various process stages covering yarn processing, fabric processing and caustic recovery plant and also machine heat demand norms for thermic fluid heated machines. It is hoped that this reference book will provide useful guidelines to conserve thermal energy for the textile wet processing industry.
