Creative innovations for inspired embroidering & twisting

Oerlikon Saurer has always fulfilled customers’ demands for top technologies in embroidering and twisting.

At Oerlikon Saurer, abundant experience and progressive knowledge are incorporated into developing state-of-the-art technologies for the textile future. The market leader in the world of production systems for embroidering and twisting is a Business Unit of Oerlikon Textile and is part of the global Oerlikon Group. Leading brands and solutions, developed during 158-years of textile tradition and combining know-how, quality and safety: the product lines Saurer and Melco are top providers of shuttle embroidery machines as well as single and multi-head machines, Allma and Volkmann are champions in the yarn markets for clothing staple, carpet yarn, tire cord, industrial and glass yarns.

Technological progress means new production methods, more flexibility, considerable cost reductions – and, increasingly, energy-saving. Oerlikon Saurer is always striving to make improvements here. With great success, as the following example shows.

Prize-winning energy-saving miracle machine: Allma CC4

Saving energy is becoming more and more a part of day-to-day production, and modern machines contribute to this. The Allma CC4, which has just been introduced into the tire cord cabling market, is a real energy-saving miracle machine. In normal operation, customers save up to 50% energy with the cabling machine. The progressive technology was acknowledged at the Tire Technology Expo in Cologne with the “Tire Technology Award for Innovation and Excellence 2011” in the category “Tire Industry Supplier of the Year”.

Customer requirements are fulfilled with top-rate performances such as this – a core goal of Oerlikon Saurer. Because without product quality and cost-efficiency, customers will not be successful in the long term, as expressed by Mr Jan Roettgering, head of the Business Unit Oerlikon Saurer: “It is therefore our main goal to provide additional value to customers with regard to productivity, flexibility and quality. For this reason, we develop, produce and optimise forward-looking, practice-oriented systems and supporting services. Our customers must be able to rely on their production systems at all times”. This applies all around the world. From the production locations in Arbon (Switzerland), Denver (USA), Krefeld (Germany) and Suzhou (China), a marketing and servicing network is spread across all the main textile markets and important textile locations in the world of embroidery and twisting.

Setting standards in embroidery: Saurer and Melco

One name stands out in the history of the production of shuttle embroidery machines: Saurer. The Saurer company was founded in 1853 and has since then developed and produced a great number of technological highlights which have successfully contributed to positioning the current product line at its technology peak. In 1869, for instance, the first hand-embroidering machine, in 1995 the first Epoca with completely new technologies such as Actifeed or Pentacut. This tradition continues with the new Saurer Epoca 6 pro. After intensive development work and worldwide field tests, the first machines have been in industrial use for over a year now. With excellent results: The average production speed is up to 30 per cent higher, but still maintaining complete reliability and top embroidery quality. Follow-up orders are already confirming these results.

With its ground-breaking high-speed embroidery system AMAYA, Melco in Denver (USA) sets completely new standards in the single and multi-head embroidery machine market with regard to productivity and creativity. The new AMAYA XTS, equipped with Actifeed and the new thread cut system, is a flexible embroidery machine, which produces synchronously or individually with one or up to 30 embroidery heads. Together with the modern embroidery software „DesignShop“, Melco offers a perfectly attuned system of hardware and software from the design right through to the finished embroidery product. With the new LiveDesigner, Melco provides customers with an exclusive online shop. Online personalisation is very much the trend for companies in the advertising article and finishing sectors, and it shows great growth potential.
