FILTRATION 2008 – an International
Conference & Exposition for the filtration industry – will be held
from December 9-11, 2008 at the Pennsylvania
Convention Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The Exposition will run
from December 10-11, 2008. Calling it as the Global Filtration Marketplace,
the organisers, the Association of Nonwovens Fabrics Industry (INDA) feel
that the growing flitration industry has much at stake with a lot of
developments taking place all over the world. “My
main focus is to look at what is new in filter media for gas and liquid
filtration. This is a good place to come and talk to a lot of people at the
same time and every year there is something new that companies are
introducing,” says Roy Taylor, Access Business Group, Ada, MI. Many
important papers on the flitration industry have been lined up for the
conference, among which the following are noteworthy: The
EUROVENT Certification Program for Air Filters Class F5-F9 by Peter
Pfeuffer, Freudenberg Vliesstoffe KG EUROVENT,
the European Association of Air Handling and Refrigerating Equipment
Manufacturers, has created a certification program inviting companies to
have their air filter elements tested by independent laboratories in
accordance with the test standard EN 779 in order to verify their announced
filter class and initial pressure drop. Energy
Reduction Options for Pulse-Cleaned Dust Collectors by Lee Morgan, Farr Air
Pollution Control Industrial
pulse-cleaned dust collectors evacuate dust from work spaces, while
providing a system where the dirty filters do not need to be changed
constantly. The dust collector is often the least maintained piece of
equipment in the factory, resulting in unnecessary energy consumption.Learn
what can be done to a dust collection system to reduce energy. REACH:
The Challenges of Doing Business in the EU by Neil Canter, Chemical
Solutions Steps needed to comply
with REACH will be reviewed. An update will be made on the progress of
pre-registration. Predictions will be made about what companies need to do
to be in compliance in the future. Synthetic
Media for Fuel & Oil Filtration by Andrew J Giles, Freudenberg
Nonwovens, LP Increasing demand
in the US for synthetic fuel and oil filtration media. Synthetic media can
provide better chemical resistance and higher dirt loading capacity for
extended drain intervals for engine oil. Synthetic nonwoven media can
provide better initial filtration efficiency without the need for glass
fibres. Nonwovens Filtration of
Nanoparticle Agglomerates and Dust Loading on Nanofibre Filters by Jing
Wang, PhD, University of Minnesota
Micro- and nanofibre filter substrates were lab tested using
nanoparticle agglomerates to reproduce “real life” filtering situations;
filter results were examined and compared against those tested with
spherical nanoparticles.
