$317-mn hub for next-gen textiles in US
Aprivate-public collaboration will invest $317 million towards developing next generation textile industry in the United States. According to a just released statement from the U.S. Department of Defense, a consortium of 89 universities, industry and non-profits organised Cambridge, MA-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will form the “New Revolutionary Fibres and Textiles Manufacturing Innovation Hub.”

US Customs opens hub to oversee T&C import
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has opened a specialist unit in San Francisco to oversee imports of apparel, footwear and textiles (AFT). The new centre - which joins three other units covering pharmaceuticals, electronics and petroleum, natural gas and mineral products - is aimed at encouraging collaboration between CBP and industry.
Chinese cotton imports hit all-time low
Chinese cotton imports reached an all-time low in September, as large domestic inventories reduced reliance on foreign supplies, at a time when economic slowdown is weighing on demand. China imported just 50,900 tonnes of cotton in September, a decline of 59 per cent YoY.
