New system concepts for spinning filament yarns

Two spinning concepts for the economic production of high quality bico filament yarns promise tailormade solutions for all applications, explain Günter Schütt and Susanne Beyer from Oerlikon. Although bicomponent yarns have been around for about 50 years now and they are not a new phenomenon, we have seen a constant increase in demand over the past few years (with frequent fashion-related peaks in 2015, for example). Reasons for this development are manifold. In addition to current fashion trends, new, highly-efficient solutions for manufacturing textile fabrics such as circular knitting, for instance, reduce production costs.
Don & Low invests in Oerlikon Neumag equipment

Oerlikon Neumag supplies nonwovens plant to Western Europe. Following the recent investment by Scottish company Don & Low, another leading western European nonwoven manufacturer has invested in an Oerlikon Neumag meltblown plant. The now signed contract comprises a system for the production of nonwovens made from polyolefins and other raw materials. The commercial production launch has been scheduled for the first half of 2017.

High cost, lack of entrepreurship and dearth of research are proving to be major hurdles on the path of growth for this emerging segment in technical textiles. Karthik Muthuveeran analyses and bares some details. China is the leader today and will remain as top producing country in Asia, taking the lion’s share. India’s nonwoven production is growing at 13 per cent CAGR on volume basis as compared with China’s 12 per cent CAGR.
