Ichalkaranji shows huge scope for man-made cellulosic fibres
Ichalkaranji has over 10,000 shuttleless looms and the number is growing by the day and there is an immense potential in this textile hub to adopt Viscose, Modal and Excel fibres and process them to fabrics which are in ready demand, says Uday Khadilkar, Vice President - Birla Cellulose.
The year that was
The expectation from the new government in the centre was very high. However the situations at the ground level did not alter much. The government´s attention was concentrated on macro issues. This could not lift the morale of the industry.
New textile machinery shipments dip
Shipments in most of the textile machinery segments experienced declines in 2014. Deliveries of new short-staple spindles fell by 15 per cent from 2013 to 2014. Shipped long-staple spindles and open-end rotors increased by 70 per cent and 2.6 per cent respectively.

Indonesia is third largest importer of tex machinery
According to the 2012 International Textile Machinery Shipment Statistics report of the Switzerland-based International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), Indonesia was the third-largest importer globally in 2012 of short-staple spindles, with 594,288 or 5.7 per cent of the total; the third-largest importer of shuttleless looms, with 3,727 or 4.3 per cent; and also the third-largest importer of large circular knitting machines, with 1,350 or 3.7 per cent.
Overall shipments of new textile machinery down in 2013
In 2013, shipments fell in most segments though remained on a relatively high level. In comparison to 2012 global shipments of new short-staple spindles rose by 10 per cent while those of open-end rotors decreased slightly by 2 per cent and those of long-staple spindles dropped by 45 per cent.
